About the Studio
About MEA Piano Studio
With over 60 students, MEA Piano Studio is one of the largest private music studios in Northern Virginia. Kids love to come here! 60+ students is much larger than your average teacher's studio. So, what makes my piano lessons in Alexandria so different?
About the Studio
I really believe that I have discovered what motivates a student. I offer unique piano lessons in Fairfax, VA that teach kids about music and get them to enjoy music. For example, with the Rock Band program, instead of students practicing for hours by themselves, students get to play in a band from their first lesson and there is absolutely no practice required at home. With the preschool program, students want to practice because practicing is full of fun games and exploration. And finally, with piano lessons, instead of a strict and cranky teacher that demands kids go home and learn their songs on their own… All students learn their music during their piano lesson.
And what does this mean?
It means students leave their lessons feeling excited and empowered because of what they have accomplished.
I also emphasize and guide all students through the skill of performing their music.
And what are the results?
Self-confidence and poise.
These programs are very different from what most adults who quit lessons experienced as a child. And that's okay! It's time to leave behind traditional music lessons and embrace the modern student. Today's kids (and parents!) are super busy and stressed, and these programs take pressure off of not only the student but also the parent.
Right now, I have over 60 students enrolled in weekly lessons and classes. There a students from Alexandria, Springfield, Burke, and Annandale, plus students from parts Maryland & Washington D.C., as well as other areas of Fairfax County & Northern Virginia.
Hours & Location
The studio is just minutes from the Springfield Mall and right down the street from the Franconia DMV. Families living in Burke or the city of Alexandria can get to the studio within minutes, and we teacher a number of students from Washington D.C. as well.
The studio is open Monday through Wednesday from 1 pm to 9 pm. The studio is also open on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1 pm and on Sundays from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm.
About the Instructor
I began playing at the age of ten years old, taking lessons from my church's music director. Like many families, my parent purchased a keyboard because they just weren't sure if I would stick with piano. And after a few months... they purchased an acoustic piano.
In eighth grade I was invited to audition for entrance into Duke Ellington School of the Arts, located in Washington D.C. I was accepted and thrived, advancing not only my piano skills but my composition skills as well.
I really loved loved the atmosphere of such a small school, so I applied for and studied music composition at Radford University. And after graduating, I began my teaching career. Although it started out as a "back-up" plan (I majored in Music Composition and didn't want to move to L.A. or New York), I grew to love it. Teaching music is my full-time job!
